Abstract:
Abstract On November 17, 1896, Hermann Minkowski, a professor at the Zürich Polytechnikum, or Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule, better known today as the ETH, added a postscript to his letter to David Hilbert: “It just occurs to me—for several days we have been meeting in regard to the international mathematical congress.”
