Chapter Chapter 3 in Introductory Group Theory and Its Application to Molecular Structure, 1975, pp 111-133 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract One of the most important problems in the interpretation of Raman and infrared spectra of a polyatomic molecule is the determination of the molecular potential function. Its importance lies in the fact that it furnishes information on the forces between the atoms in a molecule, and it serves as a starting point for making perturbation calculations that could lead to the finer details of the spectrum.
