Chapter 6 in Applied Statistics in the Pharmaceutical Industry, 2001, pp 135-151 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter illustrates the usefulness of graphical presentations of single patient results for small- or medium-sized clinical studies. Single patient results include single observations per patient, patient profiles, or derived values per patient. These graphs serve as exploratory tools. They allow us to check for outliers, the validity of distribution assumptions, the linearity of relationships, etc. It is not intended to give an introduction to graphical diagnostic tools. Only simple statistical models will be applied. Consequently, there will be no analysis of residuals for any model, only presentation of raw or transformed data.
