Chapter Chapter I in Models for Smooth Infinitesimal Analysis, 1991, pp 15-55 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter we will introduce the rings that will play a rôle in this book which is similar to the rôle played in algebraic geometry by ordinary commutative rings with 1. These are the so-called C ∞-rings. The general notion of C ∞-ring as such does not occur in classical analysis and differential topology. However, the main examples of C ∞-rings occupy a central position in singularity theory and related subjects.
