Chapter Chapter 5 in Dirichlet, 2018, pp 39-48 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The pamphlet 1826 that constitutes Dirichlet’s first publication in his own name is a small, twenty-page-long brochure containing his proof of Fermat’sFermat, Pierre de (1601–65) Last Theorem for $$n = 5$$ . It had a very limited circulation, but, as we noted in the two preceding chapters, it reached the individuals and institutions considered important by HumboldtHumboldt, Alexander v. (1769–1859) in finding a suitable position for Dirichlet on leaving Paris.
