Abstract: Abstract Dirichlet had arrived in Berlin just in time to establish himself in his quarters before becoming involved in the preliminaries to an occasion that journalists of a later time might have described as “chic reform.” The occasion was the seventh annual gathering of the Society of German Scientists and Physicians, the Gesellschaft deutscher Naturforscher und Aerzte.
