Chapter Chapter 6 in A Pure Soul, 2019, pp 51-56 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract When it was his turn, Ennio De Giorgi presented himself for the oral test. One of the examining commissioners was Gaetano Fichera, a student of Picone’s who was a few years older than Ennio. Sicilian, dark haired, with a well-groomed moustache, always elegant looking, Fichera’s character could at once be arrogant and border on lunacy. He may have been jealous of the privileges Ennio De Giorgi enjoyed in working with Picone: he could get up late, was given fewer tasks, could read the newspaper. We do not really know. But it seems that during these exams, Fichera wanted to embarrass De Giorgi.
