Abstract:
Abstract The advection-diffusion equation that is usually employed as a model to simulate pollution dispersion processes was extended considering the chemical kinetics of nitrogen oxides (NO x) and sulphur dioxide (SO 2). The model including chemical reactions is presented and validated against experimental data from the Hanford and the Prairie Grass experiments. While the results for sulphur dioxide are relatively unaffected by the extension of the model, the concentrations for nitrogen oxide are considerably reduced by the considered chemical reactions. A comparison to simulations using the CALPUFF program gives strong support for our findings.
