A chapter in Technical, Economic and Societal Effects of Manufacturing 4.0, 2020, pp 17-41 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter provides a rough overall view of the current state of additive manufacturing, how the status quo was reached and what the future looks like, and how these issues are related to the Manufacturing 4.0 context. Chapter focuses on the most developed and studied form of additive manufacturing—laser based powder bed fusion of metal materials. Main challenges, possibilities, and technology readiness-level are presented together with a discussion about the approximate costs related to manufacturing with the-state-of-the-art systems.
