Chapter Chapter 9 in Understanding and Profiting from Intellectual Property in International Business, 2021, pp 195-225 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter considers internationalizing strategies to profit from IP, that is, the commercialization of IP across borders. First, it emphasizes the pre-commercializing evaluation of international expansion. Evaluation includes the owners’ capacity, rationales for expansion, international IP environment, and timing for IP commercialization. Second, it is to compare and contrast the strategies available for IP commercialization. That is, evaluations should consider assessing the costs, profits, risks, and levels of headquarters (HQ) control involved in adopting each international commercializing strategy. Finally, the chapter discusses the decision-making process to the actual selection of an appropriate strategy for internationally commercializing an IP.
