Chapter Chapter 10 in Jamaica’s Evolving Relationship with the IMF, 2021, pp 267-292 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter explores the extent to which Jamaica’s three agreements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) between 2010 and 2019 reflected alignment with its long-term national development plan Vision 2030 Jamaica. It explores the content of both in order to determine on a thematic and specific basis how the conditionalities in the form of the prior actions and the structural benchmarks under each agreement were consistent with any or all the national goals and national outcomes that are distilled in Vision 2030 Jamaica. In doing so it attempts to make conclusions about the validity of the claim that the IMF does not concern itself with development or growth concerns in its narrow focus on balance of payments imbalances. In doing so, it reflects on the changing modalities in the way the IMF interfaces globally echoed in Chapter 7 .
