Chapter Chapter 12 in Heron Streaming, 2021, pp 183-195 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Heron scheduler SPI includes two primary interfaces: ILauncher and IScheduler. ILauncher is invoked by Heron CLI and responsible for starting a scheduler instance. The scheduler instance invokes IScheduler, and we will implement onSchedule() and onKill() methods for both service mode and library mode. Heron keeps a scheduler processing running in service mode, while it leverages the underlying resource orchestrator to manage container in library mode. Service mode is the default setting; however, library mode is a better choice in some scenarios.
