Leaving the Middle Ages
Hermann Simon
Chapter 2 in Many Worlds, One Life, 2021, pp 17-36 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract “Seemingly overnight, a sudden change came that was more radical than anyone could have ever imagined.” That is how a contemporary described the tremendous changes I experienced in my first world. We were literally made from the soil of our Eifel homeland. Everything we ate came from our farm. I attended a one-room schoolhouse with eight grades. It was a unique time to come of age. Why do I mourn the deep sense of community from that time? And how did I manage to overcome the narrow limitations of that world—and travel as far as Africa as a teenager?
