Abstract: Abstract We discuss various views of cryptocurrencies including as a means of payment, as a claim to a growing platformPlatforms or as a speculative investment. We present information on the asset pricing characteristics of a sample of cryptocurrencies. We touch on various practical use cases such as reducing transaction costs and possible adoption by central banks. Finally, we enumerate some concerns with cryptocurrency exchanges such as illiquidity and price manipulation.
