Chapter Chapter 18 in Extreme Value Theory with Applications to Natural Hazards, 2021, pp 409-436 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter presents, in detail, a methodology used by EDF in many hydrological studies, which offers an alternative to the use of extreme value distributions. Based on multi-exponential weather patterns and hydrological models, this approach has proven to be robust and demonstrates that the response provided by statistical theory is not necessarily the most appropriate in practice. The existence of this approach demonstrates the need to continue the research of suitable statistical models, and the comparison of real data with models derived from theory.
