Abstract:
Abstract This chapter presents the main useful concepts of the statistical approach to extreme values, such as return periods or levels, as well as a general methodology for conducting a statistical study. It also introduces alternative approaches, statistical or not, that can be valuable in dealing with extreme natural hazards.
