A chapter in Complex Symmetries, 2021, pp 123-142 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Our work deals with the concept of symmetry and its usage in the educational context, in particular, at the primary school level. We consider symmetry as a principle of invariance for organising and categorising a large number of phenomena, data and information into coherent knowledge. Based on historical and epistemological analysis of symmetry and its mathematical language, we propose to study abstract and complex symmetries through a manipulation game with cardboard boxes of different shapes and their covers, accompanied by the verbalisation of the entire experience. Thus, elements of translational and rotational symmetries combined together are used to teach abstraction for building interdisciplinary scientific knowledge.
