Chapter 6 in Design Thinking for New Business Contexts, 2022, pp 101-126 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Chapter 6 commences by exploring the value of a clearly articulated mission statement outlining the purpose and strategic ambition of the organisation. In effect, the mission statement makes organisational values visible to the many differing stakeholders both within and outside of the organisation. Then, it turns attention towards the sustainable development agenda, critically exploring the urgent need for sustainable business practices, surrounding the ongoing debate of climate change and global warming. Alongside sustainability, the rise of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is gaining wider attention amongst the business community, placing ethical practice and accountability at the heart of organisational vision. New business models are explored through the lens of Social Enterprises, and how the emergence of these socially orientated organisations are making meaningful contributions to wider societal good. The chapter concludes by offering a detailed case study by Dr Xinya You, based focused upon the creative industries in Dundee, Scotland.
