Chapter Chapter 3 in Green Behaviors in the Workplace, 2022, pp 27-54 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract A textual analysis highlights areas of overlap as well as similarities and differences between the various existing definitions. To identify convergences and divergences, existing definitions will be grouped according to the behaviors measured, i.e., voluntary (extra-role), prescribed (in-role), or counterproductive (non-green). In the interest of economy, a single nomenclature is proposed to reduce definitional ambiguity. Examples of specific behaviors are given for each category, demonstrating that, in some situations, individual and organizational values can be inconsistent, especially where employees’ commitment to the environment exceeds the organization’s commitment. The findings presented in this chapter are based on a systematic review of 100 articles published on the topic over a forty-three-year period (1977–2020) (see Chapter 2 for details of the systematic review).
