Chapter Chapter 4 in Engineering Statistics, 2022, pp 125-160 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter, the terms used in experimental design are introduced: response variable, factor, extraneous variable, level, treatment, blocking variable, replication, contrasts, and effects. The relations needed to analyze a one-factor experiment, a randomized complete block design, a two-factor experiment, and a 2k-factorial experiment are derived. For these experiments, an analysis of variance is used to determine the factors that are most influential in determining its output and, where appropriate, whether the factors interact.
