Chapter Chapter 4 in A Ludic Journey into Geometric Topology, 2022, pp 47-69 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The twentieth century started with a great deal of applications of non-Euclidean geometries. Topology, as an applied topic, appeared primarily in the study of Einstein’s general relativity and, by the end of the century, material science Nobel prize winners benefited from the topological classification of surfaces. Here, using surface planar models and word representation, we show how to identify some surfaces.
