Abstract: Abstract This chapter gives a background to the development assistance business: Why it should be called an industry, its size and growth over decades, the money and its sources, the main types of funding, the time bound nature of funding, and a detailed who’s who in the industry. Also, it looks at how foreign aid is spent and what countries are the beneficiaries of all this assistance.
