Chapter Chapter 19 in Development Delusions and Contradictions, 2023, pp 319-331 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter looks at the long-held faith that only by supporting the expansion and deepening the formal private sector can poorer economies grow and create jobs. It charts the ways that private enterprise is supported, but also how a veneer of crony and connected capitalists have come to dominate economies. It could be called elite capture on a colossal scale, something donors (unwittingly?) help along.
