Chapter Chapter 2 in A Guide to Penrose Tilings, 2023, pp 7-32 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter introduces some of the main definitions and ideas. We start defining tilings and symmetries of tilings, presenting some basic notions, and illustrating these notions with simple examples such as polygonal tilings and jigsaw puzzles. In the last part of the chapter, we prove an important existence theorem for tilings of the plane, called the Extension Theorem.
