“Cuba’s Day in the Sun Will Come”—Fred Wade, President, Fireworks FX
T. K. Hernández ()
Chapter Chapter 24 in The Cuba Interviews, 2023, pp 261-266 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Part VI, Chapters 21 through 24 , examines the theme of conducting “business in Cuba.” The interviews give a clear sense of the Cuban market during the Obama thaw and today. These conversations took place between 2016 to 2022 with business consultants, a president of a non-profit organization, an attorney, and a president of a business active in Cuba. This chapter is an interview with Fred Wade, president of Fireworks FX. The company, founded in 1983, has experience in the Caribbean region. Since 2015, it has been active in Cuba. This interview sheds light on the business experience in Cuba. In 2019, the company staged firework celebrations for Havana’s 500th anniversary. Our interview took place two weeks before the company shipped the fireworks for the festivities to Cuba. Mr. Wade spoke of market entry, company history, and plans for expansion on the Island. He also explained how the U.S. embargo presents opportunities for foreign investors and small companies to gain a foothold in the market by the elimination of American competition. In addition, he also discusses the importance of establishing relationships with Cuban partners and how it offers an advantage over someone who is completely unknown.
