Chapter Chapter 5 in The Economics of Immigration Beyond the Cities, 2023, pp 83-121 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter we empirically discuss the effects of migration in rural areas. In detail, we analyse (1) to what extent migrants are needed in rural areas, (2) which competencies they bring in and if they are participating in the labour market, (3) how relevant migrants are for consumption, (4) the role of migrants for innovation, (5) whether we see any effects of migrants on GDP and (6) how the fiscal regulations within a state could affect the immigration surplus in rural regions.
