Abstract:
Abstract During the last years, regulatory bodies have demanded a more flexible and efficient pharmaceutical production that provides qualified drugs. In order to improve the quality of the final product but also to optimize the sub-processes that take place in pharmaceutical manufacturing, companies should use Process Systems Engineering tools. These methods require advanced understanding of the underlying phenomena and mathematical models that can capture the dynamics of each process separately. All the aforementioned led the pharmaceutical sector to pay much more attention lately, to the development of better, more efficient—continuous—pharmaceutical processes and models that can provide in-depth knowledge of the exact interactions among the mechanisms that occur in each process. This short survey provides a brief overview of some techniques that can be applied in order to improve processes development and pave the way toward optimization of pharmaceutical production.
