Chapter Chapter 12 in The Changing Role of National Development Banks in Africa, 2023, pp 283-307 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract There is certainly a clear difference in the treatment of risk between development banks and commercial banks. Commercial banks and other traditional financial institutions seek to maximize risk-adjusted expected returns, with a short-term view. They tend to focus on minimizing risks that could result in financial losses or lower profits. They typically do not have the objective of achieving development goals.
