Chapter Chapter 21 in Tree Balance Indices, 2023, pp 241-247 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The Colijn-Plazotta (CP) rank or CP labeling induces a bijective map between the rooted binary trees and the positive integers [26, 127]. While Colijn and Plazzotta [26] originally developed it in order to define metrics on tree shapes, Rosenberg [127] found that it could also be used to measure the balance of a binary tree. Intuitively, this is due to the fact that the CP labeling induces a ranking which orders the trees according to increasing symmetry (as the CP rank of a tree is small if its two maximal pending subtrees have a small and similar CP rank).
