Abstract:
Abstract While interested in studying the performance on a mathematics proficiency test of a very large cohort of college freshmen in a developing country, a team of investigators had no knowledge about the population distribution of the performance scores. So, they gathered a pilot random sample of 100 individual scores, created the following stem-and-leaf plot, and calculated the mean and standard deviation (observed sample mean = 57 and the observed sample standard deviation = 17).
