A chapter in Wine Tourism and Sustainability, 2024, pp 73-92 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Wine and tourism form an intricate nexus, providing tourists with a unique experiential journey while fostering the economic, socio-cultural, and environmental evolution of wine regions. In the Spanish context, wine tourism has garnered increasing scholarly attention, with numerous investigations delving into the transformative role of wine routes in enhancing territorial competitiveness, augmenting wine yield, elevating residents’ quality of life, and championing environmental stewardship. Yet, a discernible lacuna persists in the academic discourse concerning the economic repercussion of these routes within Spain. Addressing this scholarly void, the present study endeavors to elucidate the economic influence of these wine routes. The findings reveal nuanced variations in the economic contributions across Spain's wine routes, offering strategic insights for stakeholders contemplating capital infusions, be it through acquisitions or direct investments, particularly in vineyards situated along the more economically influential wine routes.
