Chapter Chapter 4 in Crony Comprador Capitalism, 2024, pp 61-122 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter traces the origins of China's comprador capitalism. As an underdeveloped country, China began embracing liberal economic doctrines in the late 1980s. Following the global events of 1989, this transition, starting in 1992, led to a deliberate embrace of the neoliberal paradigm, culminating in the adoption of market-Leninist reforms and an antinational development strategy. The institutionalization of comprador capitalism reached its peak with China's accession to the WTO, firmly establishing the country on an irreversible path of dependent development.
