Chapter Chapter 9 in Rethink Economics and Business Models for Sustainability, 2024, pp 125-134 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Creating the conditions for citizens and businesses to participate and drive the changes required by the SDGs is the main purpose for legislators, government bodies, municipalities, public institutions, and state secretary offices. Their own organizations and public held companies must be managed in a company perspective as described in Chap. 8 . Municipalities and state-owned companies or organizations must work actively with SDG#12, SDG#7, SDG#3, SDG#5, SDG#8, SDG#16, and SDG#17 when it comes to how they operate their administration. These goals are even stronger imposed on the tax-funded companies than on the private sector, as they should lead the way and they operate solely for the purpose of securing decent lives and sustainable conditions. This chapter walks through SDG#9, SDG#11, and SDG#13 as these are the goals addressing the responsibility and actions of local politicainas and municipalities, and assess the importance of political will, action and power to succed with this transition.
