Abstract:
Abstract This introductory chapter provides a brief overview of the current publication and serves as a guideline to its various thematic discussions. The chapter introduces the relevant European social policy context, the existing EU framework for poverty measurement, the newly proposed ABSPO modelling strategies, the main patterns of the resulting novel absolute poverty estimates as well as the recommendations for potential future EU-wide measurement and social indicator use. The discussion also features a detailed summary of each subsequent chapter of the book, helping readers find the topics most relevant to their particular interests.
