Abstract This chapter explores the dilemmas surrounding the allocation of decision rights within public and nonprofit organizations. It examines the advantages and drawbacks of both centralized and decentralized structures, emphasizing the criticality of balancing between central authority and autonomy. Furthermore, the chapter delineates the circumstances under which unitary, multidivisional, and matrix structures must be invoked within the realm of public and nonprofit sectors.
