Chapter Chapter 6 in The Syrian Refugee Crisis and Lebanon's Economic Landscape, 2024, pp 81-99 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter investigates the profound disruptions and subsequent realignments within Lebanon’s trade dynamics due to the Syrian refugee crisis. The chapter highlights how traditional trade routes and partnerships have been affected, leading to shifts in import and export patterns, and the emergence of new economic partnerships. Through an in-depth analysis, it explores the impact of these changes on local industries, the challenges of adapting to a new trade environment, and the role of international aid and trade agreements in mitigating these effects. By combining economic data, policy analysis, and case studies of specific industries, this chapter offers a comprehensive view of the trade disruptions caused by the refugee crisis and the strategies employed by Lebanon to navigate these challenges, aiming to shed light on the broader implications for economic stability and growth.
