Chapter Chapter 10 in The Palgrave Handbook of Development Finance, 2025, pp 189-215 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Trade finance, considered the oldest domain of international finance, has been an important driver and backbone of trade as far back as the early civilisations of the Middle East. Trade finance is the lubricant that powers global trade, facilitating the exchange of goods and services between sellers or service providers and buyers. In a post-barter world, it is estimated that 90% of global trade, particularly that of developing countries, relies heavily on the availability and access to trade finance.
