Chapter 12 in The Palgrave Companion to MIT Economics, 2025, pp 227-245 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract E. (Edgar) Cary Brown was one of the longest-serving members in MIT’s Economics Department, his association with the faculty lasting for no less than six decades, including a long period as departmental head. He made several important research contributions, with many of these being in the field of fiscal policy and taxation, served in the US government during and after the Second World War, and gave testimony to the US Congress. Section 2 of this chapter presents a brief sketch of Brown’s life and career before Sect. 3 examines his contributions to the analysis of depreciation. Section 4 is an outline of Brown’s work on fiscal policy and Section 5 concludes.
