Chapter Chapter 1 in Tourism, Growth and Sustainability, 2025, pp 1-5 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter introduces the reader to the debate on sustainable tourism from an economic perspective. Tourism, in fact, is a phenomenon not only contributing to the growth of the territories in which it is established but also generating several criticalities in terms of overexploitation of resources, alteration of places, removal of the population from the most attractive areas, commodification of local traditions and culture, to mention a few. This consideration gives rise to the interest in searching for strategies and tools ensuring that tourism is sustainable.
