Chapter Chapter 10 in Applied Economics in Globalised Economies, 2025, pp 277-303 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract We examine the role of housing markets in economic stability and social well-being. We analyse the structure of housing markets, including supply and demand dynamics, price determination, and the impact of housing policies. We discuss key economic concepts such as housing affordability, mortgage financing, and land value. The effects of globalisation are highlighted, including increased foreign investment in real estate, housing market volatility, and affordability challenges in global cities. We also examine the societal implications of housing, including wealth inequality, urbanisation, and environmental sustainability. Policy interventions, such as rent controls, subsidies, and zoning regulations, are evaluated for their effectiveness in addressing housing issues. Empirical methods, including econometric modelling and land value analysis, are presented to study housing market trends and policy impacts. By linking theory with real-world examples, the chapter provides insights into how housing markets influence economic and social outcomes within a globalised economy.
