The Yupana
Cinzia Florio
Chapter Chapter 5 in The Mathematical Enigma of Guamán Poma’s Yupana, 2025, pp 27-38 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract In this chapter, we introduce the yupana, the device used by the Incas to perform calculations. We clarify that the yupana does not correspond to the object often found in archaeological excavations to which this name is generally attributed. Rather, only the yupana drawn by Guamán Poma can be considered the one actually used by the Incas.
