Abstract A binary relation S ( x , y ) $$S(x,y)$$ is called a functional relationFunctional relation with respect to a variable y if, for every x ∈ dom ( S ) $$x \in \mathrm {dom}(S)$$ , there exists exactly one y such that S ( x , y ) $$S(x,y)$$ holds true.
