Tuck Cheong Tang

Chapter Chapter 1 in Future of Economy in Asia, 2025, pp 3-24 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The rise of China and India is observable recently. This future study of both empirical and conceptual types aims to foresees the ASEAN economy in association with China, and India in 2050 and 2100. The current data 1973 (1982)–2022 are utilised for generating the future data of selected core macroeconomic variables, namely real GDP, trade, and net financial account. The future trends of these variables are relatively different from the presently observed. Indeed, the connectedness of them among ASEAN, China, and India is supported by cointegration and Granger non-causality tests. Such connectedness is stronger toward the future of 2050 and 2100. This chapter forwards that Asia can help Asia. The future of ASEAN in 2050 remains as present, while 2010 remarks a take-off for ASEAN to integrate ‘sufficiently’ with China, and India.
