Symmetric Polynomials and Groups

C. M. Linton

Chapter 4 in Quintic Equations and How to Solve Them, 2025, pp 33-53 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Solving polynomial equations is naturally thought of as a process in which we construct the solutions in terms of the coefficients of the polynomial, whether they be specific numbers, as in x 2 −10 x + 21 $$x^2-10x+21$$ , or parameters, as in x 2 + bx + c $$x^2+bx+c$$ .
