Chapter Chapter 4 in Strategic Destination Governance, 2025, pp 73-103 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter provides a focused analysis of Destination Management within the MICE industry, highlighting its significant economic impact and rapid growth potential globally. It categorizes various types of MICE events (virtual, deliberative, training, corporate meetings) and their unique characteristics, including their contribution to the diagonalization of tourist flows. The profound impact of digital technologies on the MICE sector is explored, from virtual/hybrid formats to IoT, RFID, AR/VR, blockchain and AI-driven solutions, enhancing efficiency and engagement. The chapter details the MICE supply chain from an “overlapping perspective”, identifying key demand actors (IGOs, INGOs, companies, universities, financiers, sponsors, delegates) and supply actors (public authorities, venues, accommodation, catering, agencies, communication companies). It emphasizes the crucial role of the Convention Bureau (CB) as the primary coordinating factor, acting as an “interface” between supply and demand and ensuring an integrated, high-quality offering.
