Abstract:
Abstract To fully understand and appreciate the proof of the Birkhoff ergodic theorem, we have to dig a little deeper in analysis. We give the necessary background in this chapter and then prove the theorem. It is recommended that you carefully read Sects. 9.1 and 9.2 again before starting Sects. 11.1, 11.2, and 11.3 below.
