A chapter in Pedagogical Case Studies in Purchasing and Supply Management, 2026, pp 173-187 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This teaching case addresses urban freight congestion in the centre of a major city at a high-rise office building known as the Skyline. Linden, the property management company of the building, is working to improve the situation with the help of CityFlow, a startup using data-driven insights to solve urban freight issues. The building owner and the corporate occupiers are the other involved parties. While all parties stand to gain from the project, the complexity of different interests, minor concerns and the novelty of the approach necessitate a clear alignment on the next steps. Based on analyses of the overlapping interests and needs of the multiple stakeholders and the information flows between the different parties, the students should develop a persuasive communication strategy to align the stakeholders on solving the urban freight congestion. The case also gives students the basis to critically reflect on the role of procurement beyond a buyer of goods but as a driver of innovation.
