Abstract: Abstract This is a personal and scientific biography of the famous mathematician and polymath Johann Heinrich Lambert (1728–1777). Besides mathematics, we review some of his works on perspective, pyrometry, cosmology, astronomy, philosophy and other topics. We highlight his relations with several thinkers of his times, including some Bernoullis, Lagrange, Kant, and especially Leonhard Euler.
