Chapter 1 in Corporate Sustainability and Circular Economy, 2026, pp 1-34 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter provides a systematic overview of the evolution of the concept of sustainability, analysing its three environmental, social and economic dimensions and retracing the main international regulatory and political milestones: from the Stockholm Conference to the Brundtland Report, from Rio 1992 to the Kyoto Protocol, up to Agenda 2030 and the Paris Agreement. The final part explores the European Union’s response through the Green Deal, Taxonomy, CSRD and the role of the European Semester, outlining an integrated institutional framework.
