The contributions assembled in this book respond to this transformative moment by examining on-going rural development policy at multiple scales: the macro-level of European visions and systemic transitions, the meso-level of regional trajectories and cross-territorial comparisons, and the micro-level of sectoral innovations and grassroots experimentation. Together, three sections and twelve chapters of the book form a coherent architecture of the book, reflecting the multilevel nature of innovation in rural development policy. From strategic European visions to regional trajectories and sectoral transformations, the volume provides a comprehensive, cross-scalar account of rural areas. The interplay between macro-, meso-, and micro-levels deep dives into layered, interactive and place-dependent dynamics. This integrated approach reflects contemporary rural scholarship’s increasing emphasis on territorial approach complexity, multi-actor governance and the co-construction of sustainable futures.
